A Life by Design is an award-winning interior design and branding studio headquartered in Singapore, with a presence in the UAE and Australia. With a rare duality—serving both private clients and visionary developers—we see design as a tool for transformation, not decoration. Through bespoke projects and accessible digital platforms, we meet people where they are and take them somewhere new. It’s not about the space—it’s about who you become in it.
What is your team’s inspiration and motivation for the FIND Global Summit design this year?
Our team’s inspiration for the FIND Global Summit design draws from the theme Nation of Design. We wanted Singapore to hold its place on the world stage with a design that resonates with our signature red, while incorporating seasonal tones for fall. These richer hues balance vibrancy with warmth, keeping the design on-trend and globally relevant, while softening the bold red with sophistication. The opening portal is futuristic—symbolic of our digital world and Singapore’s place at the leading edge—yet framed by a recognizable shape that grounds the experience and creates connection. We used height to create drama and fabric to enhance acoustics, draping and trimming over 1,000 metres with signature yet subtle detailing. Layered with ombré string screens, the installation adds depth and fluidity—echoing the Asian tradition of using textiles in design, reinterpreted in a contemporary and refined way. Together, these elements create a space that is immersive, symbolic, and distinctly Singaporean on the global stage.

How have you seen the design landscape in Asia evolve in recent years?
What shifts in client preferences are you noticing, and what do these trends suggest about how the business is changing?
The COVID period already feels like a distant memory, but it marked a pivotal moment of deep reflection—both personally and professionally. During lockdowns, the built environment became more sacrosanct than ever. With safety, solitude, and stillness behind walls, clients had the space to reconsider what home—and space more broadly—truly meant. Design preferences became more considered, more researched, and more intentional.
This shift sparked a new wave in the design world—one where fleeting trends no longer define an entire interior. Instead, clients are seeking spaces that integrate their authentic selves, with layers of meaning that reflect who they are and how they live. Trends still have their place, but they serve more as accents—subtle notes of relevance—rather than the full narrative.
We’re seeing a deeper integration of personal story, culture, wellness, and multifunctionality, with social, work, and solitary zones harmoniously blended. The demand for spaces that speak the language of their inhabitants—emotionally, aesthetically, and functionally—has never been higher. The movement toward truly design-led environments that resonate on a personal level is not just a shift; it’s a new standard.
What inspires you most in your work as a designer?
Are there particular experiences, places, or philosophies that fuel your creativity?
As cliché as it sounds—life. People, perspectives, culture, and their desires.
Our philosophy comes from an adaptive place of being observational rather than judgmental. It allows us to stay open to what a client, organisation, or company is truly seeking in terms of a design-led outcome. A large part of that comes down to understanding the psychology of space—how environments influence mood, behaviour, and emotion.
Creativity itself is limitless—it’s everywhere. Once you start seeing inspiration in the world around you, you can’t unsee it. The real magic lies in how we bring those influences together to create something unique and now integrate that with AI.
Do you have any “pet projects” or personal favourites you’ve worked on?
What made them special – and did they teach you anything new about your practice?
They all teach you something new—about the industry, what materials are available (or not), about yourself as a designer and creative mind, and about your team—their combined strengths, gaps, and everything in between.
What makes a project special, in our A Life by Design world, isn’t about what turns heads or impresses others. It’s when a client chooses to go deeper—opting for something consciously personal, layered, and intentional in any space they occupy. Our role is to guide that process, drawing on our expertise to translate their story into something that feels undeniably theirs.
The most meaningful projects are always shaped by that shared mindset—where trust, intention, and creativity meet to create something that truly resonates. We’ve had the privilege of working on several of these quietly powerful projects—they may go unnamed, but they define the heart of what we do.
As design becomes increasingly interdisciplinary, how do you see your role as an interior designer evolving?
Are there new skills or collaborations that are becoming more important in your work?
So many new skills—and it’s both exciting and, at times, overwhelming. The real challenge is: how do you stay ahead of the wave, ride it, and still give yourself the space to enjoy the process?
Technology is evolving at lightning speed. Machine learning—just, wow. What it can do, what it can generate, and how we might integrate it into design is opening up a completely new timeline in history.
We’re now collaborating in new ways—both with people and with machines. Human expertise, intuition, and storytelling still sit at the core, but we’re learning how to partner with technology to push boundaries, test ideas, and streamline processes.
For us, the focus is on minimising noise and narrowing the circle of influence—so we’re less reactive and more intentional. The aim is to channel that energy to refine what we do best, stay open to the collaboration and integration—of both the human and machine kind—that truly enhances our work.
