Session 1.2: Panel Discussion – Conscious Traveling: Authentic Experiences, Genuine Connections, and Positive Outcomes

Travelling in the aftermath of a pandemic and in the midst of a climate crisis is an ethical and ecological conundrum. A journey frequently consumes far more precious resources than staying put, but it can also serve as a reminder of why it is critical to care for the environment. Conscious travel is the intersection of discovery and empathy. It encourages people to plan their travels with a more holistic approach. It necessitates that we have a clear rationale for travelling, that we consider and comprehend its consequences, and that we choose to travel with purpose and intention. From hotels and resorts to their hardware and software, design thinking is redefining the travel sector. Participants in the hospitality industry are using their work and creativity to create authentic experiences, genuine connections, and positive outcomes.

Session 1.3: Panel Discussion – Trash to Treasure

Designers and artists working with salvaged or recycled materials is by no means a new phenomenon — there are examples from as early as the early 20th century. However, we’re now living in an age when two-thirds of the resources we take from the earth are wasted or discarded, and our precious natural resources are being quickly diminished. We’re seeing large swathes of the earth covered in non-biodegradable landfill and sea life choking on plastic waste — and the climate crisis is a looming threat. In this panel discussion, we speak with four designers from across Southeast Asia who are addressing these issues in their own innovative ways.

A focus on design across hotels, leisure, and lifestyle. In today’s world we look to diversify and extend hospitality’s qualitative offer. Session 2.1: Keynote – Rediscovering Local Culture & Heritage in a Modern World

South Korean designer Teo Yang began his career travelling and working in many vibrant cities, including Amsterdam, Berlin, and Los Angeles, before settling in his beloved hometown of Seoul. Yang, one of Architectural Digest's 'AD100' designers for 2022, focuses on translating Korean traditional heritage to modern design language through his understanding of local culture and global insights. His work ranges from museums to private residences, and from furniture to consumer goods. From the West to the East, Yang will lead us on a voyage through time and space.

Session 2.3: Interni Masterclass – The Art of Living

The home is increasingly at the centre of people's worlds: great design quality must lend itself to many functions – residential, social, work and well-being. The home thus becomes a multifunctional space where technology and design are the tools that guarantee sustainability and quality in all environments: from the kitchen with robotic appliances, to the bathroom with reduction of water waste in favour of comfort, hygiene and well-being, to multi-tasking furnishing solutions that can be made for different uses within the home, from working spaces to social areas.

By incorporating culture into the widely accepted three pillars of sustainability – social, environmental, and economic – a holistic approach to sustainable architecture is created. Economic sustainability focuses on choices and issues that affect how individuals and businesses meet their basic requirements and define economic success and advancement; Environmental sustainability seeks to reduce the use of natural resources and energy consumption; social sustainability is concerned with meeting the needs of a community; and cultural sustainability investigates ways to improve our lives and leave a viable inheritance. Architects discuss the pressing issues in their countries while sharing their expertise and thoughts from various backgrounds.

Session 3.1: Keynote – The Brand Builder

Visionary, entrepreneur, designer, artist, mentor, adventurer, business leader, and philanthropist: Janice Feldman is the maverick founder of global lifestyle brand, JANUS et Cie.

In this fascinating keynote presentation, Janice will take us on an entertaining and informative illustrated journey from her teenage years in California, through the launch of JANUS et Cie in 1978, the pros and cons of the company’s acquisition by furniture giants Haworth in 2016 and on to reveal her current and future plans for the next chapter of her life.

Hear from the woman herself how she built her firm from a single representative showroom into the world’s leading full-service design resource for contemporary lifestyle furnishings, textiles, and accessories. Discover how she used her laser-like focus on elegance, design, quality, and exceptional service while strategically identifying and conquering new and emerging markets – expanding the company’s reach from its original Pacific Design Center footprint into an international network of twenty showrooms and flagships in Los Angeles, Sydney, Singapore, and Milan. And learn how from the very beginning, Feldman worked to extend the average product lifecycle, becoming the furniture industry’s first user of recycled post-consumer plastics.

Feldman’s zest for innovation, respect for tradition, and passion for creativity and commerce is truly inspirational.

Session 3.2: Panel Discussion – Building Influential and Enduring Brands

At the local, national, and international levels, creating a successful contemporary brand can prove challenging. While good design, good products, and good experiences are givens, developing an influential and enduring brand requires a team capable of meeting the many existing as well as future challenges: defining the brand story and personality, finding your unique place in the market, increasing brand awareness, and audience engagements, to name a few. Technological advancement and the digital space create new opportunities while also increasing competition in the ever-changing global market. Our panelists will discuss areas such as innovation, customer loyalty, positioning, and counterfeiting, among others.

Session 3.3: Panel Discussion – Blockchain, NFT, and Striving for the Betterverse

The adoption of blockchain technology is transforming the creative landscape. NTFs have enabled a digital art revolution that appears to be essential in the world of Web 3.0, and with its three value pillars - community, culture, and utility - creatives have been attempting to connect NFTs to physicality in the real world. The metaverse is a rapidly growing industry that is expected to generate one trillion US dollars in annual revenue for businesses across a wide range of industries. Besides which, despite the fact that cryptocurrencies receive the majority of media attention and market enthusiasm, blockchain technology is being extensively tested in a variety of sectors. What does tomorrow’s world look like?

Session 3.4: Interni Masterclass – Super Materials

The world of design is taking sustainability very seriously: to change the world we need to preserve the quality of Made in Italy but in a sustainable form. The 21st century is therefore characterized by a renewed search for materials used by design manufacturing companies (furniture, textile, lighting, ...) that make their collections innovative and eco-friendly. Added to this is a search for new materials, often born from start-ups, which renew the language of Italian design.
