Garett Hwang

Garett Hwang is a Director of UNStudio, and a key figure in the management of UNStudio Asia. In 2001, Garett received a Bachelor of Art from Brown University in Providence, RI, and in 2008 earned her Master in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Since joining UNStudio in Shanghai in 2011, she has worked on many of UNStudio’s key Asia projects. In 2017, Garett moved to Hong Kong to manage the UNStudio Hong Kong office, and continue the development and delivery of the Lyric Theatre Complex. She has since concurrently overseen several projects throughout China and the Southeast Asia region.
Garett’s experience spans across typologies and scales, greatly focusing on the integration and smart application of computational design through to construction processes to benefit project quality, cost and control of complex building designs from inception to realization. Through ambitious projects such as the Raffles City mixed-use development in Hangzhou and the Lyric Theatre Complex, she has learned ways to re-interpret spatial relationships and discover hybrid programmatic interfaces that benefit the user. By additionally working on development of customer experience and architectural branding, Garett has also led a number of flagship retail projects, creating singular solutions that uphold identity while adding to brand value through strategic design.
